剧情简介：塞维利亚的广场上，卫兵唐何塞邂逅烟草女工卡门，被她以《哈巴涅拉》和红花示爱;随后卡门与人斗殴被捕，唐何塞经不住诱惑放走她，自己身陷牢狱。出狱后唐何塞在郊区酒店找到卡门，虽以褪色红花倾诉爱意，却在卡门怂恿他逃亡、又与前来斥责的队长厮打后，被迫加入走私帮伙。山中营地中，唐何塞思念母亲，卡门与他争吵不断，占卜屡现两人死亡的预兆，而斗牛士埃斯卡米洛的出现更引发唐何塞的妒火，此时米卡耶拉带来唐何塞母亲病危的消息，他只得下山。斗牛场门前，盛装的卡门陪伴埃斯卡米洛入场，早已倾心于斗牛士的她，严词拒绝了赶来乞求复合的唐何塞，还掷还了当年的定情戒指。场内响起埃斯卡米洛获胜的欢呼，急于进场的卡门彻底激怒了唐何塞，被他用短刀杀害。当兴致勃勃的观众从斗牛场涌出，只见唐何塞伏在卡门遗体上，哭喊着自己杀死了心爱的卡门。
